Ferreira Café is a well known institution in Montreal for over 20 years. With their outstanding service and their passion for good olive oils, fine wines and fine Portuguese cuisine, this restaurant has earned a special place in the hearts of many Montrealers. It is the efforts of many of the family members that this establishment has managed offer an experience like nowhere else for so many years. In addition to Ferreira Café, three other restaurants have been open by this group in the last 20 years, including Campo. This charming little rotisserie is very different from the other establishments of the Ferreira group: it's all in simplicity that they welcome you in their location on Maisonneuve street.

In the heart of downtown Montreal, Campo specializes in local, 100% grain-fed Portuguese chicken. We therefore find a high quality chicken in each dish. It is in a very small dining room of thirty eats that you can sit to enjoy your meal. It is also possible to take your order to go if you want to eat on the go or at home. The kitchen is at the back of the restaurant on a lower level. There is no table service, the place is more like a canteen where you order yourself and then sit down. The cooks, who are also very friendly, take the order so that you can then head to the cashier to pay and choose your beverages and sides.

The place is very warm, there is brick on the walls and a beautiful tile on the floor that gives a pretty European house look. Light strings are suspended near the ceiling to provide a soft and pleasant lighting. The frames on the walls caught our attention: we can read messages and funny quotes on images with chicken wings for example or the little bone that is used to make wishes. If you usually prefer to order your food to go or if you have never been to Campo before, we recommend you to sit in the dining room to enjoy your meal.

Although simple, the menu is surprisingly varied. Many of the menu option feature the delicious Portuguese chicken as the star. We opted for the half-chicken served with fries as well as the crispy chicken wings. The chicken was very tender and tasty, it is clear that it was marinated awhile before being slowly grilled.

The fries that accompanied the chicken were perfectly crispy and the cabbage salad was reminiscent of the one we eat at home. The piri-piri sauce was by far one of the best I have tasted, perfectly tasty and savory. It is also possible to buy some to bring it home. We also tried the chicken wings, it is possible to have them with a barbecue sauce or the piri-piri sauce, they were crispy and really addictive.

We also ordered the half ribs that were served in a unctuous barbecue sauce with a slight orange flavour. If you love ribs, you will not be disappointed by their taste or exceptional tenderness. As we wanted to taste one of the salads available on the menu, we took the Caesar salad to go because we were to full at that time. The dressing was creamy and the lettuce was accompanied by a generous amount of grilled chicken. We had a glass of red wine with our meal, the one that Mr. Ferreira himself imports from Portugal. We also liked that the wine was served in regular glass instead of a wine glass.

Among the options available, you will find various chicken sandwiches, poutine, various salads and healthy meal bowls. In addition to fries, many more options like chicken noodle soup or homemade chicken nuggets are available on the menu. You can also bring your little ones with you, they offer a special menu for children. For those who like dessert, do not hesitate to try the olive oil chocolate mousse or a Portuguese classic, the natas.

To accompany your meal, you can choose from wines, beers or Portuguese sparkling wine, allowing you to fully experience a Portuguese rotisserie! It is possible to eat at Campo every day, from noon to night. You will be charmed by the smiling staff, the cozy dining room and the flavoury dishes.
