A Brand New Concept is Added to Barranco!

Are you familiar with Peruvian cuisine? Because of its multicultural history and varied geography, Peruvian gastronomy is one of the most diversified cuisines in the world. Lima, Peru is THE gastronomic capital of the Americas.

Find a part of this heritage and delicious cuisine at restaurant Barranco and their new Comptoir Barranco Café Sandwicherie.

The restaurant opened in May 2021, right in the middle of the pandemic so they only offered a takeout and delivery menu. With the announcement of the reopening of the dining rooms last June, they were able to really showcase their authentic Peruvian dishes.

In December 2021, a new announcement of the closing of the dining rooms was made and no reopening date was provided. Given this scenario, the intuitive management of the Barranco group quickly found solutions. They launched COMPTOIR BARRANCO CAFÉ SANDWICHERIE which allowed them to keep their existing staff and to serve new express dishes accessible to all for take away and delivery such as sandwiches, salads, and Peruvian desserts. The menu, the photos, the media kit, and the operations were completely revamped in 4 intensive days! The brilliant counter is currently located inside the Barranco restaurant. This is temporary, the team is currently looking for a brand new space that will be suitable for the new concept alone.

A great team is at the helm of these two businesses consisting of several Peruvian students directly recruited at the ITHQ. At the helm is Fidel M. Vasquez, former general manager of India Rosa restaurant and mixologist who created their famous signature cocktail menu. He is also the founder of the Liquid Chefs. All syrups are made only from natural ingredients. As for Renatto Miranda, he is a reference in nightlife marketing in Montreal with RC Familia. Josue Briones, former owner of the restaurant PioPio and Les Deux Fours, passionate about the restaurant business. Chefs Daniel Silva Reyes from Peru and Michelangelo Miceli from Italy and Quebec are now partners in the Barranco Group. This group of people has a wide experience in the restaurant business, they are able to create magic and an authentic offer of great quality!

These exceptional chefs transform products into unique and memorable traditional recipes. For example, all the fish is completely reworked. The yellow peppers, the hot peppers (ají amarillo, ají limo and rocoto)... all without exception are imported from Peru and processed on-site. The sausages are entirely homemade as well as the chorizo or the hachana.

At the counter, among the must-try items on the menu, the Asado sandwich is made of roast beef cooked in its own juice for 6 long hours and next to it the choclo con queso (Choclo, fried queso fresco, fried quinoa, and huacatay mayo). Otherwise, one of the great favorites is the papa a la Huancaina: Peruvian yellow potato fries, huancaina sauce, hard-boiled duck egg, aji amarillo, botija olives, and green onions. You'll find that many tasty options will transport you with every bite.

When you eat at Barranco Urban Kitchen, it's impossible to pass by without trying one of their delicious ceviches with fish, octopus, and calamari. Otherwise, we strongly suggest trying the Solterito made with Peruvian olives: botija or one of the original recipes of salchipapas. As for the cocktails, they are principally made with alcohol from Quebec.

In addition, all the containers used for your take-out or delivery orders are entirely biodegradable. Click here to choose the dishes you wish to order.

When the dining rooms reopen, be sure to visit Barranco for their brunch which is a fusion of local and Peruvian flavors. The menu was designed in collaboration with chef Arnaud Glay of the famous brunch restaurant le Passé Composé. Reservations are highly recommended via Libro Reservation.

During your next visit, enjoy the best Pisco Sours in the city, the traditional Peruvian flag drink.

Give the Barranco as much love as possible and we strongly invite you to support them. Visit their website to get their Barranco merchandise (various shirts and/or caps)... Great gifts to offer! The RestoMontreal team loves the t-shirt made of cotton directly imported from Peru! You'll love the softness and the high quality of manufacturing.

Both the restaurant and take-out concepts are currently expanding and more locations are expected to open in 2022. Visit their website and social networks to get the latest news about the Barranco team!
