Anyone who lives or likes to go out in the Saint-Henri district is probably familiar with this place considering the friendly atmosphere. Le Bon Vivant is the kind of restaurant where we immediately feel welcome, where one can easily imagine celebrating and eating an abundant meal surrounded by people we love. It is also a place that can undoubtedly please everyone, thanks to the variety of its menu that offers dishes inspired by European and Mediterranean cuisine.
The use of local products, to encourage farms and local merchants, makes their menu even more irresistible. The homemade charcuteries that you will find on the menu or in some of the dishes are a true pleasure for our taste buds.
Le Bon Vivant offers a luxury cuisine without pretence, in a warm atmosphere evoking a sense of family. The restaurant decor offers a mix of modern and industrial elements as well as rustic accents. You can sit in comfortable benches, or around the bar, overlooking the open kitchen, allowing you to admire the work of the kitchen team. A fixed menu is offered including some classics specific to Bon Vivant, which never disappoint! In addition to the items you will find on the fixed menu, a changing menu offers market dishes, fresh fish and cuts of meat in limited quantities. The fish are usually served whole with various vegetables. The meat portions are fairly large allowing you to share with your table. If you want to try the Bon Vivant with a group of friends, a tasting menu is available upon request, and can be adapted perfectly to your needs.
To accompany the delicious dishes served at Bon Vivant, an interesting wine selection, specially designed to pair with the food, is at your disposal. Feel free to ask questions about the products and to ask for suggestions!
Already knowing the BON VIVANT's reputation, we had an idea of some essential items that we had to try during our visit.
We started with the fried cauliflower appetizer, a plate of carefully prepared and seasoned cauliflower and Brussel sprouts. Generous pieces of halloumi cheese, also fried, blended well with the vegetables. To make this dish even tastier, a zaatar (a mixture of Middle Eastern spices) and yogurt sauce covered the bottom of the plate.
The second appetizer we took is classified as a dish, but since we were sharing, the portion was perfect for two. The octopus was perfectly grilled, served with large chunks of chorizo, as well as grilled vegetables. Among the vegetables, peppers, zucchini and potatoes complemented the plate, as well as a generous amount of mashed black beans.
We were particularly greedy the evening we went to Bon Vivant and we could not choose among all the delicious dishes offered so that even if it seemed rather abundant, we ordered the dish of cavatelli and the catch of the day.
The cavatelli dish was simply divine! Delicious fresh pasta, a tasty tomato sauce whose acidity was perfectly balanced and to top it off, a whole burrata, yes whole, is placed on a mountain of pasta. This dish is very simple, but the execution is so perfect that you will dream of it as soon as you leave the restaurant.
The catch of the day obviously varies according to arrivals and seasons. During our visit, the sea bream was the star. Served whole, this delicious white-fleshed fish is carefully cooked on the grill right in front of you, if you sit at the bar as we were. When it is ready, a large plate garnished with a fattouch salad (Lebanese salad), grilled vegetables and of course the sea bream is placed in front of you. The side vegetables were fennel, zucchini, carrots and broccolini. This dish impresses as soon as it arrives on the table, with its colors and of course when you taste it, by the flavors! We really enjoyed our dishes.
Although we were very full, we still tried the key lime pie and we did not regret it! Rather classic, but absolutely delicious. The butter taste from the crust, with the smoothness of the creamy filling and the acidity of the lime makes this dessert a perfect conclusion to our meal.Bon Vivant makes sure that you have a pleasant evening with good company in the warmth of their restaurant.
