Located in the St-James church on Sainte-Catherine, Le Balcon has the perfect setting to offer its extraordinary dinner and show formula.
Let yourself be transported into the world of American Soul, Motown, Gospel, Jazz, Cuban music or in a performance worthy of the greatest cabarets!
The ultimate place to bring your date, colleagues, friends and/or family. You will surely spend a memorable and unique moment in Montreal.
Let's start by talking about the history of this company. First opened in 2005 on the Plateau Mont-Royal, the formula was rather minimalist as a café-show.
From 2007 to 2015, they moved to a new location on Notre-Dame Street West in Old Montreal, to accommodate more customers, and that's when full meals started to appear, as well as Motown and Soul shows.
In 2015, they moved to the St-James church on Ste-Catherine. The venue holds 300 people when at full capacity. Since then, everything is made and designed on-site. Le Balcon manages everything from the conception of the shows, search for artists, technical team, elaboration of menus, kitchen brigade, etc.
In March 2020, they had to close their doors during the pandemic. That's when they took the opportunity to improve the customer experience. They have reopened in September 2021, and since then you can discover several changes that will make your experience even more memorable.
What's new in 2021
We have a few scoops on these new features for you... A 24-foot removable bar that allows you to sip a drink directly at the bar, giving it a cabaret feel.
On the floor, it is now possible to reserve benches. If you are one of those who prefer benches to the mezzanine, they have kept the church pews while adding cushions to make you more comfortable.
On the technical side, the sound system has been greatly improved and the ticket office is now at the entrance of the church, no more trying to find it!
What about the dinner part of the experience?
When we say dinner show, we also mean food. For them, this is just as important as the show. The experience is meant to be memorable from every angle.
They have teamed up with several Quebec companies to design the best possible food and beverage experience. A chef is on-site to cook the menu developed by the Kitchen Collectif team under the direction of Marc-André Jetté. Special attention is paid to using local products, the menu will change seasonally depending on the availability of fresh market food items. The desserts come from the Crémy pastry shop. The cocktails have been specially designed for them by the Crowd Bar & Flair team. There are even juices invented for Le Balcon! Finally, the wines are privately imported by Importation Épicurienne. It is possible to adapt the menus in vegetarian and vegan versions, just contact Le Balcon to make the request.
Keep an eye on their social media and our events section to know the next dates where the Gospel brunches will be offered. The formula is in the form of a seasonal table d'hôte designed with the same partners for dinner.
If you wish to enjoy the experience without eating the full meal, it is possible to reserve a seat on the mezzanine and enjoy a reduced menu.
What kind of show and atmosphere can we find at the Balcon?
Despite the renovations and changes of the past year, we still find what distinguishes this magical place such as the opera side with its red curtains, the wide stairs on the sides of the room, and the famous mystical decor.
The intimacy of the hall and the show lends itself perfectly to a romantic date and will create an unforgettable memory.
The high-level artists are carefully selected and have performed with big names. Based in Montreal, they work with the Balcon team to put together the show so that it is also in their image.
