Pizzeria Sofia

I was so glad to hear that a pizza joint finally opened in the Quartier Dix30 Square, it was the only thing missing really. The restaurant has a very homey, rustic feel to it making it great for family dinners, or a casual date night. There were large round tables which would be perfect for groups or families. The booth was extremely comfortable and tables were nicely spread apart. I enjoyed being able to see the chefs make the pizza and use the big stone ovens. My boyfriend and I started off with the fried calamari (11$), it was nice and tender although could have been a bit crispier. It was served with a tasty spicy mayo and garnished with pickles. My boyfriend had the Americana Pizza (15$) and he really enjoyed it. The portion size was large, so we brought the left overs home. I ordered the seafood linguini (16$). The pasta was fresh and i enjoyed the wine sauce. There was a decent amount of seafood including mussels, clams and calamari. I would have liked more tomatoes though. I cannot comment on the wine because the restaurant does not yet have a liquor license. Service was excellent, constantly refilling our water as soon as the glass was empty. The menu was smaller then I expected, but the quality of food is good. There is also a kid friendly menu. This is a great place to stop for a quick bite between extensive shopping, or simply to have a relaxing meal. I will go back again.

I went to Jardins Nelson with some of my girl friends for a ladies night out. This restaurant is only open for the summer months, so we made sure to go before the closed (they close thanksgiving weekend). We sat in the far back in a corner near a window and close to the live jazz band. The ambiance is just great, the big umbrellas and flowers and vines give it a really romantic look. The Jazz band was amazing! I ordered the shepards pie made with duck which came with a side of beets and fruit ketchup. It was very good, although I found the portion to be a tad bit small for the price I paid. My friends ordered crepes which they said were good, but not as good as they had anticipated. We shared a pitcher of blue sangria which was very good, but also on the pricy side. The service was very good, although I felt a little rushed. We wanted to have some drinks and listen to the music, although they brought us the bill as soon as we were done eating with out offering us more drinks.

I went to Bistro Des Bieres Belges with my boyfriend. I am not much of a beer drinker, but our waitress gave me a few suggestions and I ended up really enjoying my beer. I ordered the dijon mussels, and they were excellent. They came with a huge side of fries and warm bread. My boyfriend ordered one of the sausage plates and he really enjoyed his meal. We shared a creme brulee for dessert which was good as well. The environment is very warm, romantic and rustic. The service was very good and I love how they seated us in a tiny little corner alone. I would highly recommend this place for any couple looking for a great place for date night, or even a dinner with friends. There is seating both inside and outside (although I prefer the inside space) and lots of parking space in the back. Be sure to make a reservation though, its a very popular place on the weekends!
