Express Indien - Indian
Notre-Dame-de-Grâce (NDG)

5.0

This was truly a surprise. I had heard about it through a friend and didn't think it would impress me as not many curry/Indian restos in Montreal have ever lived up to any of the ones I've experienced abroad in my travels. I usually go to Jean Talon when I want authentic delicious curry...but now will most definitely go back to this one. This family run resto has it down! They not only make delicious food (to specification) but are familiar with many other authentic dishes, even if it's not listed on the menu. The owners (a couple) are proud and are relentless at pleasing their customers. They recently bought this once bakery front in NDG (Yagel Bagel: baked goods, bagels, and pastries) and still sell these products for take out. They offer lunch specials on their Indian cuisine as well. Comfortable, renovated...very clean and friendly/prompt service. It feels a bit like a café and doesn't quite have the ambience of a full evening/dinner restaurant yet but the hospitality more than compensates. My thali plate was generous in offerings as it was in portions and very inexpensive (vegetarian option as well). The entrées/appetizers are equally yummy and inexpensive (samosas were light and not greasy, onion bhaji melted in my mouth). My dish came with nan and rice and my friend ordered the onion version of the nan. By far the best I've tasted to date!. The main dishes (which I sampled from my friend's selection) had just the right amount of seasoning, spices and not swimming in oil. They offer take out/delivery as well. This is a hidden treasure in Montreal waiting to be discovered!!!
