Lola Rosa is a Milton Street institution. It gets 4 stars only because the food isn't INCREDIBLE, but it is consistently very good. I have gone so many times that I have eaten pretty much everything on the menu at least three times. Even my non-vegetarian boyfriend loves it (it's all vegetarian). Service can be slow, even when it's not full, with me having to ask for water and refills. However, the owner and staff are super super friendly. My favourites (you should try!) are the lasagna, the tomato feta olive tart, the ratatouille; my boyfriend likes the lasagna, the burritos, and the chili. The dessert - very good, especially the croustade aux pommes! Sometimes they also have excellent soups.

Wok Cafe gets so many stars because: a) it's the best cheap Chinese there is b) their hot and sour soup is to die for c) their portions are huge and tasty and don't come dripping in oil d) their Salt and Pepper Tofu is DELICIOUS. Any time my boyfriend and I feel like cheap Chinese, we go with Wok Cafe. So you get an idea, we can get: 2 hot and sour soups 1 plate of rice, veggies, and yellow tofu curry 1 plate of rice, veggies, and hot and spicy tofu for less than $20! Delivered to your door! Also, the tom yum soup, general tao chicken and the general tao tofu - YUM.

San Tropol has DELICIOUS sandwiches. Very very very yummy (if you like cream cheese). I go there quite often, despite the fact that it's a little overpriced (really, $12 for a sandwich?!) because it's tasty, everyone likes it, and they have the cutest patio in the summer (well, I only go in the summer, in winter it's not half as charming). Service can be slow.

Aux Vivres was good. Not excellent. Good. I went there with a friend and we sat at the bar, the staff didn't really seem well-versed in the tempeh they served (a little disappointing to me). I felt that it was a little overpriced for the quality of the food, but I'll probably go back.

My boyfriend and I went here for our anniversary dinner. I love cheese, and thought this would be a good way to introduce him to it. We got a raclette for 2 that you cook yourself, with potatoes and pickles and meat, and that comes with a salad and a dessert. The salad was excellent - mouthwatering. The raclette, mmmmm... And the portion serving was SO BIG (all my boyfriend remembers is "too.much.cheese"), well worth the price, followed by dessert. Total price was $100 for the both of us, tip included, but without any drinks. A little pricey, but it's what you pay for good cheese in Montreal!

Having lived in India for 4 years, I'm always iffy about eating Indian in Montreal. Devi was recommended by a friend, and the food was excellent. We shared the Manchurian Cauliflower as an appetizer, which was DELICIOUS (I will eat that again and again) and I had the Paneer Bhurji (excellent, though I asked for it spicy and they put so much chilli that it overwhelmed the rest of the taste), and for dessert we shared the Pistachio Cheesecake. Good, but a little too thick for my taste. My overall bill (1/2 appetizer, main meal, 2 servings of naan, dessert) came to $40 with a generous tip included (our waitress was wonderful, we were never without water). Also, I was so stuffed I took home 3/4 of my Paneer Bhurji (I had ordered the 2nd naan for that) and 3/4 of the cheesecake. Dinner for tonight!

The food is lousy but the staff are wonderful. Everyone from the hostess to the busboy and waiters are very friendly and funny. The pleasant atmosphere almost made up for the lousy food.
