If I could give no stars for service I would have. I have gone to Tripoli MANY times over the years and I'm always disappointed. The food is amazing but not everyone has 4 hours to waste to get ONE meal. They are beyond slow, they don't care that their service is slow and no matter how many conversations you have with the owner regarding needing more staff...it never changes. Thanks to my husband I have been to many many steak houses and this one is my favorite. I know it was owned by the same people who have Queue de Cheval however 40 Westt is a million times better. No matter what kind of meat you order you know its going to be cooked to perfection and that its been aged perfectly (and of course I'd know, I'm TEXAS raised!). The first time I ever went was with my boyfriend (now husband) and his family for my birthday. We ordered the hot and cold sea food platters and we were just astonished at how amazing everything was prepared and presented to us. As our main meal everyone ordered something different (steaks, seafood etc) and everything was perfection. Not one person had a complaint. Oddly enough my husbands favorite thing off of their menu is the authentic greek salad which is served with the most amazing greek "barrel" feta which is the best feta to eat. (Yes, I do judge restraunts by their feta, if they use cheap feta they most likely use other cheap ingredients). We go there often for their food just because my husband wants the salad. Often we'll start with a salad and a dozen raw oysters and then move on to steak and sea bass and its amazing. I've never had a complaint with the food and the service is top notch. Before our drinks are even finished the waiter will ask if we'd like another or in my husbands case, a fresh one was brought without having to ask. Our waiter glasses were refilled very often and between meals the wait staff came to clean the table with a bread crumb gatherer. Everything there is incredibly impeccable and I highly recommend this place to anyone who is willing to spend a few hundred dollars for a meal. 40 Westt often gets compared to Morton's Steakhouse in the US however, I find no comparison. 40 Westt hands down!!

This was the worst dining experience of my life!!! I made the reservations on Friday afternoon for Saturday night. We were a party of 20 people and they said that they could accomodate us so I was excited. As I was making the reservations I was then informed for groups of 15 or more it is recommended to make a preset menu for the group of make everyone order off of the table d'hote (whatever its called). They informed me that their selections on the table d'hote were very diverse and would have something to please everyone. I told them that along with our party we would have kids and I was informed that the kids could offer off of the menu. Once we got there I was disappointed. Our table of 20 was broken down into two tables of 10 which I was not informed of prior. Shouldn't we be told that we couldn't have a 20 people table but instead two 10 people tables? More than half of the party was not pleased with the seating arrangement and we had to ask the manager to move the tables around so at least all of the adults could sit together. One member of the party asked the manager if we could order off of the menu since the table d'hote menu was NOT diverse. It was made up of roughly 10 items and more than half of them were seafood! We were told if we order off of the menu that it would take slightly longer for our food. We said that we understand but we perfer to order off menu since the table d'hote was NOT appealing to us. We then asked our waiter if we could order our appitizers and we were told "NO". How can a waiter tell his customers that they can not order their food? At this point we had already been seated for over an hour! At one point while we were ordering our drinks one member in our party thanked the waiter for his patience with our table since we were so many people and seated at different tables etc. The waiter than replies to us "I don't have patience for this job. I only do it on Saturday's because I don't have patience." We were shocked especially because one in our party is a waiter and another a resto owner himself! We order our appitizers and our main meals at the same time and we begin to wait for our food. Meanwhile, we have only been served water when getting there (over an hour ago), we already said we weren't having wine and the wine glasses were still on the table along with empty glasses from our alcohlic beverages. The waiter would bring fresh drinks but not take away the empty glasses making for a very crowded table. Then everything went downhill. At this point we have been in the establishment for TWO AND A HALF HOURS. Our waiter comes back to our table and informs us that the grilled squid that we ordered over half an hour ago is sold out. Why wait that long to inform us of this? One member of our party asks the waiter why we werent informed of this half an hour ago when our order was placed and our waiter got snappy with us and said "Its out of my control. Would you like me to go fish it out of the ocean for you?". Excuse me? Are you sure you even like your job? Our appitizers begin to come out of the kitchen one by one (by the way our waiter has stopped serving us and the bus boys are now doing it). EVERYTHING WAS COLD! The squid was cold and chewy. The mussels were cold, the shirmp was under cooked. We ordered Portugese sausage and we got Italian instead. The salads had green tomatoes and NO DRESSING! The kids food was coming out completely wrong, they would forget dishes, they used the wrong pasta etc. We've been here for THREE HOURS at this point and we ask for the manager who basically brushed us off and told us "I'll take care of you at the end of the night." By this point we are all starving (we've been seated three hours and our appitizers only came out half an hour ago and they were inedible). We cancelled our order and walked out. We asked the manager for the bill for the food and drinks that we did have as we aren't looking for a free meal and the manager told us he was very sorry for our dining displeasure and that there was no bill, everything was on the house. We ended up going next door to Barbie's at 10pm where they were more than thrilled to serve us. Our waiters there were attentive and served the food extermely fast. Our problem wasn't just with the wait. It was with the complete lack of respect from the wait staff, the complete lack of service. How often do you go to a resto where they do not come fill your water glass? We understand that it will take longer if you order from the menu as opposed to the table d'hote but how much longer? 20 to 30 minutes is acceptable however 3 hours is not. Our waiter was not helpful nor attentive and in fact had attitude to top it all off. The food we were served was completely disgusting and not for human consumption. I think that after seeing how long our wait was that the manager should have come to see us to apologize for the delay, offer us a free beverage, or asked the kitchen to quickly put out some appitizers and give them to us on the house. We had 8 starving kids with us that were asking every 10 minutes "where is the food, can we at least have some more bread?". The service was completely unacceptable and in this industry a lot of business is gained or lost by word of mouth. They just lost the business of 20 people who will spread the word!
