Wow! What an incredibly healthy place to eat. It's a very open concept, so the atmosphere is a little impersonal, you face strangers in front of you. Anyway, the service is pretty speedy and quick. The menus are easy to understand and cooking your own food is kinda fun. You get a good dish of fresh vegetables, and a bowl of rice. The meat is thinly sliced and it doesn't take long to cook. Overall a really enjoyable experience, I'd return here again.
Compared to Moishes, this is by far the best steakhouse at the best price. Their filet mignon, wrapped in a juicy strip of bacon is mouth watering. I only go for their Monte Carlo baked potato (twice baked, and creamy) as a side dish. My friends dived into their lobster tails and steaks with butter sauce bubbling over a candle flame. Their table d'hote menu varies with the seasons and sometimes offer half a lobster or king crab legs on their menu, so be on the look out for those. Their jumbo garlic shrimp is also very tasty and filling, Red Lobster eat your heart out. The atmosphere is dark and rich, very comfortable seats and the service is professional and friendly. This place is heaven.
No other diner is as charming or as good as this one. It's a straightforward, no fuss restaurant with old waitresses who have been working there for over 20 years. You can order anything from breakfast, to steaks, to smoked meat, to pasta. I like their breakfast combo the best, but their bifsteak is pretty tasty and their poutines are hearty. I also like their sugar pies with vanilla ice cream...mm..oh so good. It's dirt cheap too, so if you're in the area you should definitely stop by.
I regularly eat at Dunns at least once a month, and the only reason I go here is for their outstandingly creamy Carbonara pasta dish. It's to die for. I believe they're more famous for their smoked meat sandwiches, but unfortunately I'm not a fan of smoked meat. There's a good variety of things to choose from from burgers, to pasta, to club sandwiches, etc. I like their hearty Louisiana soup (potato soup with large chunks of green onions, bacon bits, and cheese), their latkes, or good ol' french fries. It's decently priced and the portions are huge.
This may be a little biased since I used to work here, but it doesn't mean that this place doesn't have its faults. Ok, traditional sushi lovers will find more variety of fish here (my guess, the only other place that offers more fish variety is Kaizen), so this is a plus. But for maki roll enthusiasts...FORGET the traditional list menu. Order from the specialty menu (which comes separately because the list is so big), ask for it and the waiter will fetch it for you. Be forwarned, they're pretty pricey $16/roll (varies from 2-8 pieces), but what's unique is that they each come with their own special sauce, most rolls use soya bean-based paper (not the nori aka seaweed paper), making it easier to chew and less fishy tasting. You'll find a jumble of mixed fruits, tempura, fish and caviar. A lot of the specialties aren't written on the speciality list as they come up with new ones every once in a while, so ask your waiter for recommendations. I personally don't like their kamikaze, and Kitaro rolls. October roll = rainbow sushi Twister = Dragon Eye/Tiger Eye This is a very busy restaurant, so service will be slow, except during lunch rush hour. Make reservations in advance as walk-ins will usually end up sitting at the sushi bar (not so bad), or upstairs.
This place is mad expensive and cash only, but from what I had, it was still better than other places I've tried so far. Commendable effort in making different dishes, and for such a tiny, crowded place, service was still pretty good. Would be best if you came with friends who have money to burn and don't mind the cramped area, tastiest non traditional miso I've ever had.
