Holder

4.0

We hosted a group brunch at Holder and it was our first time at the restaurant. We had heard various feedback regarding the restaurant and thought it would be the perfect place to host an upscale brunch with in-town and out-of-town family and friends. For groups of 20 or more, you can only order from two types of set menus that provide about four options for your guests ranging from $13 to $17 for the main course only. Beverages are extra. Most of our guests including myself ordered the eggs benedict which came with on an English muffin, ham or salmon, and a little shooter for fruit purée. Other items on our menu were crêpes, quiche, and the plat du jour (plate of the day). The other group menu offered eggs, French toast (pain doré), ometlette, and plate of the day. Service was attentive, especially considering the size of our party. Management was also very quick with answering my questions prior to my reservation. Would definitely go back.

3.5

We come to Le Toasteur quite often as it's in our neighbourhood. There's a large selection of breakfast item including classics such as Eggs Benedict, scrambled eggs, pancakes, and crepes. It's fast, decent quality, with good service. It's not a place for fancy breakfast or experimental cuisines, but it does the job and we always come back not just for the convenience factor. If you are vegetarian, there are many items that substitute meat with tofu which s appreciated, though soy milk is not available for coffee. In the summer the window/wall that faces rue Laurier is open so the front tables are great for people watching. Will come back (as always).

La Raclette

We have been to La Raclette many times and it is one of my family's favourite restaurants in the city. The restaurant's is named after the shareable Swiss dish of melted raclette cheese served with various meats (e.g. viande séchée), potatoes and other vegetables, and pickles (cornichons). However, the restaurant is so much more than the raclette -- we always order their other various menu items that change seasonally. This weekend we also had the beef tartare and shrimp cocktail to start, as well as the pork Schnitzel and New Brunswick black cod as mains, all excellent as per usual. We had the chocolate cake and hot chocolate dome for dessert, which were amazing and is no surprise since the very talented chef is also a trained patisserie. The outdoor terrace is also a very romantic in the summer. In September, we booked the restaurant for a private party to celebrate our marriage as the restaurant can be booked for private parties of about 60-80 people. The event went amazingly well, we were extremely pleased with how the event was planned and executed by both the management team and the chef, who also created our amazing tiered wedding cake. So many of our guests complimented the food and we were happy to share our favourite restaurant. La Raclette might not come up as a trendy Montreal restaurant, but as avid restaurant patrons to many various restaurants in the city we consider this spot a not-so-known secret spot. There is a reason the restaurant has endured years of operations, and we are happy to share this place with others. La Raclette is highly recommended.
