Beijing
Quartier Chinois
Service
Nourriture
4.5

I am a regular of Beijing. Been going for 15 years, i know most and most know me, i am what you could call a "fixture". It is absolutely true that the food is awesome at Beijing. The mein (Egg noodles), as in Chow Mein, especially is made at the restaurant by Mr. Lam the owner. The ambience has greatly improved in the last years as Mr. Lam fully renovated the dining room to a new chic. As for the service, it is lightyears better than most other Chinese restaurants in Chinatown. All waiters understand enough French for the clientele to order in French. They also speak english and 5 or 6 Chinese dialects between them! One point that conflicts with our "american" approach to service is the fact that you might not receive every dish you ordered at the same time. Some might land on yer table way later that others and for us, it's sometimes a problem. But you go to a chinese restaurant to experience a different culture and so, this is part of their culture. As for sitting many groups of 2 or 3 people around a single large table well, it is for the Chinese a simple, fast and painless way to eat without having to wait for a table, it's a time saving measure. Afterall, noone forces you to engage in conversation with the other groups sitting with you. If, like me, you prefer having your own table, than be ready to wait for one to become free regardless of the waiting time. One pet peave of mine at Beijing is the fact that reserving a table is practically useless. The concept of reservation escapes them completely and you might show up on time and still have to wait 10-15-20 for a table. Prices vary wildly. You can have a simple dish or a large meal-soup starting as low as $5 or $6 or you can have the fancy multi-course affair to suit you most demanding guest. Enjoy the food QS

Restaurant Jano
Le Plateau-Mont-Royal
Service

5.0

Hey all, I just came back from that little jewel of a restaurant. I must admit i was seduced completely. I had the grill calamari and the special combo (Chicken & Veal chop) platter. I topped off this spectacular main dish with the crème caramel and an "allongé" expresso. At $15, it's hard to beat the combo roast chicken and veal chop. The grilled calamari was great and the service was top notch. If you are looking for an affordable table outside of the norm, consider Jano.
