I have changed my review of Maiko as the previous one was done after our experiences there many years ago. It wasn't a bad review in any way, but as Maiko has improved, in my opinion, I had thought I should update it. We rediscovered Maiko about a year ago and found that it had improved greatly, both with the quality of the food and with the service. The sushi is excellent, always fresh and well portioned. My only complaint would be with the Miso soup which I find to be thin and lacking in flavour. The do need to strengthen their Dashi stock and add more Miso paste. But that is just me being picky. They also have excellent appetizers. The Beef Sashimi is done very well as are the salads, the seaweed salad being my favourite. The Shrimp Tempura appetizer is just right with a light crispy batter that doesn't overpower the shrimp of vegetables. I do recommend Maiko to all the Sushi lovers out there. It really is as good as anything you will find downtown.

I quite enjoy McKibbins when I want a nice meal in a bar atmosphere (I do enjoy that). The food is usually very good, with a few misses now and then with their specials. I really enjoy the steak & kidney pie as well as the chicken & leak pie. After a few beers, I also quite enjoy the steak sandwich au jus. All in all a great place to go to with friends for a few drinks and a nice meal. -- Danny

Although this place is very expensive, the quality of the food is excellent. We eat there every so often, and our bill always hovers around $300. (with drinks, of course). The steak is always excellent, and always cooked as I ask. The Seared Tuna was perfect, and all the various appetizers we have enjoyed have been spot on. I highly recommend 40 Westt to anyone that loves a good steak (and can afford the prices). -- Danny

I don't normally write a review for a place I have only been to once, but the people we dined with said that our experience was quite typical. The service was fine, albeit a bit slow at times, but that does happen from time to time and is to be expected. My main problem was the quality of the food. I had the fillet mignon and shrimp not realizing all their shrimp and prawns are breaded and fried. By far, the worst way ever to cook shellfish. The fillet was overcooked, dry and tasteless and even the smothering of pepper sauce couldn't help. I also had the escargot appetizer, that came out overcooked and rubbery. I do realize that the place is very inexpensive, but they could do more with their menu and the quality of the dishes. -- Danny

Always been a great place to go for a late night feed. Great selection of very typical deli foods. Good place for groups of friends to hang out and eat.

This is by far the best Sushi restaurant in the West Island. As good as the best downtown. We have been eating sushi for well over 20 years, having lived out west for a number of years, so we do know our sushi. We have been consistent customers since the day that they opened, and while we will still try the other places, we always go back.
