Been to this place a few times. Ok comfort food, the staff has a bit of an attitude. Went there again with friends in the summer. Sat outside in the patio. My friend found HAIR in her meal, disgusting. The waiter apologized and said they would fix it. We got 2$ off on our bill!! Yes, two bucks! She never finished her dish for obvious reasons. Did not offer to replace her dish. More and more good places are opening in the South West, spend your money elsewhere.

Love it. Been here many, many times. The place is definitely consistent. Service is always very good and their staff is very friendly. The sushi is too die for, always fresh, beautifully presented and overall excellent. Good choice of cold sakés. And their oysters gratinées are a MUST. Heaven for your palate. Cannot complain about anything. It does get busy so reservations for early supper are recommended during weekends. Best place to go have sushi anytime and thank god for this place in an otherwise empty West Island food landscape. Have been once to their twin restaurant on Bernard. The food was equally good.

My review dates back a little but seeing the last comment I decided to finally add my own as well. Went here for a birthday party. Sure the place has a "historical cachet" and a certain old-port upscale look but this is however where it ends. The menu is read to you by a waiter from a board he or she brings to your table. Why? Noone knows. Maybe they could not invest in menus. It makes it difficult to understand when you're part of a big group, people talk, the waiter talks, you get the picture. Add to that the fact that the restaurant has the pretentious habit of listing all their dishes in Italian. Ok we get it, you like it to be incredibly fancy, but honestly, get over yourself! If I want a crash course in Italian, I'll take one. When you are a large hungry group this becomes an endless nightmare! I remember the dish I had to this day because I have never in my life wanted to laugh so hard. It consisted of fettuccine, a handful of mushrooms and oil. Oh the oil. So much of it. That's it. It was around 28$. This sums up my view of this place. If you like to be seen spending money or gawk at the celebrity pictures which are inexplicably plastered all over the walls (maybe to give the restaurant some credit?? I mean if so and so famous ate there it MUST BE GREAT) then go. If anything you will dine inside an old women's prison and learn a bit about Montreal's history. If however you want to eat well, look elsewhere, the city does not lack GREAT Italian places where the food is awesome, the portions are huge and you can actually touch and understand the menu!

Heard about the hype surrounding this place. The decor is very interesting and definitely thought-out. Liked the cottage feel and overall atmosphere. However, it remains a restaurant and as such the main focus here should be on food. This is where however L'Orignal completely flatlines. The menu is quite brief, cannot say any of the mains were must-haves at first glance. Prices are decently expensive so we expected a full follow-through and succulent dishes. The food was flat and LUKEWARM!!!!! In my book, that is unacceptable! Ordered : grilled octopus as appetizer to share bavette + rack of lamb Bottle of red wine Bill : 166$ Service was just ok. Did not know much about wine selection, didnt recommend anything food-wise, if the staff does not care why should you? Would not go back. Too many great places in this city to eat out at.
