My husband and I came here just because we were looking for dinner after an evening appointment in the area. We like sushi and were hungry. But this is not really a sushi restaurant, it's a kosher restaurant with vaguely Asian dishes. The only raw fish were salmon and tuna, we were surrounded by badly behaved children, the servers were overwhelmed, and the whole was overpriced. This restaurant seems to be a community place, as many customers knew and greeted each other. That's fine, but for a Japanese restaurant, you should look elsewhere.
We've eaten in and done take out and have been happy. The beef carpaccio is good, as well as the sashimi platter. We've had these two as dinner and were satisfied. Takeout orders were also good, they always threw in a freebie. This was often something non-traditional, like a fried maki or futomaki roll in some pastel-colored crepe. Not what we would order but a nice plus. BYOB makes this a very affordable sushi place. One odd thing: at times the tap water tasted of bleach. But they brought us an ice bucket for our chardonnay.
I've been here a couple of times for a drink. The happy hour prices are great, and the sidewalk terrace quite pleasant. Not a lot of traffic, and quiet. Can't speak about the food as I have never ordered any. Service is decent.
We just moved in the neighborhood and tried this restaurant for the first time. I had read some of the reviews. We had dolmeh and hummus (hummus was complementary). Both were really good and obviously homemade. My husband had the lamb shanks -- really well cooked with a flavorful sauce and fluffy rice. I had the chicken in walnut and pomegranate sauce, as I was curious. I found the sauce rather filling. There were 3 chunks of chicken breast but I thought it would have been better with dark meat. This was not my thing, but I wanted to try it. The service and presentation were polished without being snobby or pretentious. The dining room was cozy and warm, not at all what we expected from the sub-basement entrance. I had one dessert - a sorbet with sour cherry jam, rosewater and orange flower water with little noodles. Really refreshing and light. We were the only customers on a Saturday night. I hope others discover this place, because we're glad to have it close by to our new condo! Dinner for two with wine was $60 before tax and tip.
