I truly enjoyed the hosts, nice and warm people, great service.
BUT, I wish to speak about the food, after all it is the main reason of this review.
The momos (dumplings) were quite good
Chick peas (chana masala) were below the quality standards expected. Not hot enough and just ok.
The butter chicken was good, missing a dash of salt but very tender chicken.
The naan bread was sub par. The Tibetan steamed bread(timo) roll was ok.
The Tibetan spicy beef (sha-ka-tsa) was very good.full of flavor, spicy and sauce was delicious. The beef was fondue meat yet the menu indicated beef strips, not the same thing.
In my opinion, try to stick to the Tibetan menu rather than the Indian menu.
Price was average, not that economic nor too expensive. +/- 30$/person, beer, no dessert, no coffee.
The negatives of a successful kitchen may be your service.
Place is very busy as we've attempted reservations on many occasions over the last 12 months and we finally decided to eat a little later so that we could satisfy our curiosity.
Over 45 minutes to receive our appetizer after my request of explanation of why tables that arrived after my group was receiving their main dishes while we were on a bread and water diet. Our waiter was absent the entire evening until my intervention, he was much more interested in playing with his computer screen or he would have noticed our neglected table.
Apologies from our waiter and chef, appetizers on the house! Thanks.
There was an awkward 20 minute meltdown but the food overcame scrapping the evening.
Beware the tip counting waiter at the order terminal!
Main meal was simply delicious!
Unbelievable, not to be mistaken with another Portuguese restaurant on mont-royal with a similar name. This place is cool, trendy, new, clean and AWESOME! Best piri-piri sauce in North America! Juicy chicken.
I knew there was a problem when I asked for my burger to be cooked medium and the waiter told me it only comes well done, not happy about dry burger, although the flavor was very good. Dessert was excellent especially the carrot cake and cheesecake.
First impression? Nice and clean. The waiter and owners are very nice. Only wish they could have accommodated replacing my wife's rice with salad. Not such a big deal for us and neither for them. We ordered 6 appetizers which were acceptable, not the best I've ever had, the fried calamars lacked taste and they ran out of a few appetizers from their menu. our main dishes were also quite good not great but very acceptable. The rice was missing a touch of salt. The filet Mignon was awesome but the chicken was just good. It cost us 25$ per person apart from drinks which is neither expensive nor economic for what we had. I don't think they used charcoal grill, which is much more authentic Lebanese cuisine.
The owner gave us a beautiful fruit platter (green grapes and tangerines) to complete our meal and upon payment they were gracious in discounting 3$ per chicken breast plate as a compensation for the smaller than usual portion. That was a nice touch of integrity to cap off the night, thank you!
I was pleasantly surprised with my entire experience. Clean restaurant, including bathrooms. We were a party of 38 and the service was impeccable considering the restaurant was at capacity and the Food was above my expectations.
Must try the mussel beginning course, plump and juicy mussels with a delightful light sauce.
I had the grouper fillet and it was cooked to perfection and served at the right temperature.
Thank you Chef Angelo and staff.
First let me give you my history of this restaurant.
First time I dined here must have been in 1991 for my wedding engagement party, 1992-1993 several times with my new wife, 1994- 1st daughters baptism , 1996 second daughters baptism and 1996-1999 several more simpler dinner dates.
Fast forward October 2012, and I am inclined to tell you why I stopped going for almost 12 years.
BORING FOOD and stale decor.
The food was good but not great, same old, same old.
I know that this formula has worked for so many years but for heavens sake please go see the trendy restaurants out there, they are gorgeous! Your clients deserve it, they've been paying top price for a great meal but invest in your place. It's clean but stale.
The menu needs to incorporate some new cuisine, have the owners been to Italy lately? They are still living in the past and that's ok for the older generation but they must bring on some creative dishes from the present time.
I don't mind coming back but please inspire me, inspire yourselves first.
Service was impeccable!
By the way you're out of Masi Campofiorin wine, 1.5 litre format.!! That shouldn't be happening.
We went to Kam Fung for Dim Sum to find that they don't serve dim sum on Saturday nights, we stayed anyways since we wanted Chinese food. All in all good Chinese food, amazing quantities service was less than average due to a busy evening. I have rated each dish separately:
Fried shrimp dumplings ****
Spring Rolls ****
clams in black beans ****
General Tao *** (missing sweet sauce)
Cantonese Chow mien ****
Roasted Duck *****
Chinese broccoli and beef ****
Steamed Turbot *****
Salt&pepper seafood **** (deep fried, a little oily)
As Indian as could be expected. Nice decor and more than adequate and well balanced buffet. Quite busy for a Wednesday lunch on a hot summer vacation day. Excellent price.
Very nice experience, my first tapas place! I enjoyed everything I tried! not used to the smaller portions but gave me a chance to try different items! I must say that I also enjoyed the simplicity of the whole experience! must try this cozy place, we ate on the terrace.
Does not deserve the five star rating. The food is good but not great. The fish in the rolls was not enough in quantity, if I wanted to have mostly vegetables and imitation crab I would have gone to La Stanza. Seriously, I think FuLam serves better Sushi, meaning that it was mediocre sushi at best!! Someone else wrote about sub-standard and very salty soy sauce and I must say they were spot on. Good food but NOT great as the rating demonstrates.
Very good quality and taste. The service from the kitchen was impeccable and quite a nice surprise to find all the dishes very tasty. We've been at the location in St. Laurent and we found Laval a little better food from the kitchen, the sushi was the same at both locations.
one of best Portuguese fast food restaurants in Montreal.
We go to this establishment at least once a month, great wholesome Greek doner, loose meat. Anything I've tried here was awesome, not expensive at all and I pray it stays that way.
Quiet evening at this restaurant, as most restaurants on Sunday evenings are. From past reviews, I was skeptical but I must say I was quite impressed! Great service and great tasting food! I will be back and I'll make sure to go on the least busiest days and time slots to ensure the same optimal experience. Must try the meat balls and chicken wings!Great roasted coffee! The decor was also a bonus feature!
Great soups, could eat there 5 times a week!! They do there best rendition of a Vietnamese soup restaurant, enjoy it every time!! Filling and hits the spot.
Great service and good sized portion! The curry, basil and coconut milk chicken seemed like a tasty idea until they overdosed the flavors with lemongrass. Why don't they mention this ever so important and over-powering ingredient on the menu. I enjoyed the meal but I could have done without that lemon flavor for which I detest!! Please put this on your menus: LEMONGRASS FLAVORS!!
By far the best Chinese restaurant in Chinatown!! This is my families favorite restaurant, we frequent Beijing 7-8 times a year! Our favorite dishes are: general Tao chicken, Chinese broccoli and beef, hot and sour soup, steamed oysters, Cantonese chow mein, duck, salt and pepper seafood or shrimps, bok choy with ginger and we usually try one new item per trip. Writing this review just made me hungry for Beijing!!
not too excited about our mediocre experience! Cod fritters were great and fluffy and fried to perfection in fresh oil. My wife's octopus and squid combo was good tasting but the octopus lacked tenderness and heat, same with squid not reheated thoroughly enough. My meal was the chicken and rib combo, the chicken was perfect in every way but I was disappointed with the ribs, the ribs were not heated enough and the cinnamon/brown sugar/nutmeg sauce was less than desirable. We decided that it was not worthy of a second visit.
this is the type of restaurant I would love to discover again and again! All pure restaurant people know what I'm talking about, Just go try it and let me know what you think. BIJOU!!! Awesome food, service was fun and quick, they made me feel good inside from beginning to the end for a total of 20 minutes from beginning to the end. It was different from anything I've experienced!! It was fun and delicious!!
very good quality for the price, great selections! Everything you can ask for in an all you can eat sushi!!
small restaurant, great food and freshly made to order. Will definitely go back!!
Wow, never thought it was that good! I truly enjoyed the whole experience and so did my guests, the seafood platter was prepared to perfection, the cod was delicious. Very well prepared mussels with awesome sauce, mussels needed a little attention for beards as in all restaurants, beards are sometimes hard to remove before the mussel opens after cooking, and this is perfectly normal. If you are in a rush, ask for the bill or it may be long! Definitely one of my better experiences in a Portuguese restaurant
Not the cleanest restaurant, food was good but would try cleaner establishments.
Long wait to be seated, the owner was not able to tell us how long the wait would be, He only said it won't be long. Well it was long. Very smokey, the fan above the charcoal grill was not sufficient and the entire dining room became smoked up and my eyes were burning. This is not what we payed for, the food was decent, nothing special and the pricing regular. Waiters were very good.
Clean and good ambiance. That's where it ends! I expected better considering the rating. The food was just missing that Asian taste. Save your money for china town. Honestly? I cook better! Food was bland. The service was too fast but polite. Quite pricey for what we ate. The special does not make economical sense and shrimp appetizer was way too oily.
Come on! Who hasn't tried this place yet? Why wasn't I told? This place was fantastic. I loved the food. Can't wait to try the entire menu. Flavors from out of this world. Must try Indian restaurant.
Holy Lamb! This is the kind of place I could say was a winner of a choice as far as being different and good. The dishes were very authentic and I wish I could have tried everything on the menu. Simply Delicious! We ate on the terrasse and put in a corner that was not very well vented but we survived the heat, the interior decor tries to imitate an Afgan cafe but I doubt it succeeds and it doesn't really matter because the food is truly different and great from anything I've tasted. Must try anything Lamb, it's all very good! Enjoy!
This is not the best chicken in Montreal, This is the very best chicken in North America!!! Incredible! Just tried the chicken to go, I can't speak for any other food other than the chicken and I tried the Natas which were some of the best.
The food was great tasting! Fresh food! The service was also very good, the only issue with the service was that we didn't have just one waiter, a total of 4 waiters ended up serving us and it felt kind of awkward when we needed something, we weren't sure who to address ourselves to. Regardless of that little over-waiting disbalance, the evening was great and the service was still very good. Price was reasonable considering the freshness and quality of the produce (meats and seafood platter) but a little pricey regarding the quantities and the decor was typically Potuguese.
It was not bad. Place was completely empty friday night, we were about to leave when we saw the place empty and the delivery person eating Subways in the resto. This kind of turned me off a little. The fish (Merou) was slightly overcooked and the civiche was good (not great), lots of merou in the civiche that was also good but the remainder of the fish "particles" were mostly tough as leather and unidentifiable. The price wouldn't have hurt if the meal was a little better. I strongly believe we choose the wrong menu items, nonetheless the choices we made were below average preparation and quality. I have my reservations about trying it again. I would try something else.
way too long. took over an hour and a half to be served. this is not the first time we waited so long. I guess they are going to have to learn to go faster when i stop recommending people to go there. the food was mediocre at best. not a dining experiece to write home about, too loud and too crammed. I guess the wait makes people a little more irritated than normal. food a little over cooked
Patience is a requirement for this restaurant. Today we purposely arrived early to avoid excessive waiting and as Murphy's law stipulates "if something is going to go wrong it will". The Octopus entree was very good and came quite quickly. We ordered the rest of our meal: I ordered the salt cod and my friend ordered the mixed meat platter. I received my meal 65 minutes after we walked in and my friend received the wrong order (trio of fish rather than the meat) quite different? I was practically finished my meal before his meal was served. My cod was good but not warm right thru and my friends meal was very good, the portions were generous. The waiter offered us complementary drinks to compensate for the wait but he was kind of careless in taking the order in the first place. I felt the bill a little expensive compared to similar Potuguese restos and i felt that the kitchen is understaffed and the owner brought some confusion to the chefs orders by reading out the orders and the waiters continuously pestering the boss and the chef if his orders are ready, a little unprofessional. Will go back only if the place is empty.
this is a great Greek restaurant. The Doner is above average and the grilled chicken is to die for. Good quanities, great service and fantastic pricing. Can't go wrong for a quick family meal in a pair of jeans.
Good service but has been going downhill last couple of years. Something changed about the Doner meat. If it's not broken don't fix it. The ceramic floors are greasy and slippery under the feet which doesn't appeal to me as I can easily relate it to a grease kitchen which it never was but is slowly becoming. Been a client since 1987. The service is still great.
Typical family restaurant, felt very cozy. Great food. Great prices. 1/2 litre portuguese house wine only 10$, 1 litre 20$. the portions were more than sufficient and the quality was superb. My teenage daughter had the mixed meat platter, my older teenage daughter the salted cod, my wife the grilled chicken and myself the salted cod and 1/2 litre of wine. When we arrived we were appropriately greeted and seated within 5 minutes, the resto was very busy. The food took a little longer than i liked (38 minutes) but the prtuguese olives and bread kept us busy. The wait was completely normal considering we arrived right in the rush but I tell you the food was a FEAST for the pallet. This food was fresh and prepared with a lot of tender love and care. You can tell that they truly cared about the food. The only thing I would recommend is that the Natas dessert were not of the best quality and served cold which we would have liked the option of having them warm, the decor is due for a cosmetic re-do and the bathrooms were modern and may have needed a little sprucing up after the rush. What a deal for what we ate! Believe me when I tell you it was good, this is coming from an Italian family that dines out every weekend, and we are quite demanding regarding the quality.
