I went there tonight with my fiance because we wanted to have some hotpot for dinner. After looking around and seeing that there were 53 reviews written here and most of them positive we decided to give it a try. We ordered 1 combo for the vegetarian and 1 combo of 3 different meats. The meats and vegetables were fresh. However, the disappointing thing was that the broth was just so bland. I had the spicy soup and my fiance had the traditional soup. For any hotpot meal, the broth is the most essential thing because it either makes or break a meal like this but unfortunately, at Kagayaki, their broth was a let down - it was tasteless and lack depth. It felt as if they just stirred in chili paste in water for the spicy one and watered down the traditional soup till it was flavourless. The two dipping sauces were very bland as well, the peanut sauce was sweet and peanuty and the soy sauce was, well, salty. After a while it became really one dimensional. I don't know about you but hot pots should have a melange of sauces because that's what keeps it interesting and good to eat. Although service was good, our waitress did not let us know that tofu came with the combo, so we ordered additional tofu thinking that it wasn't going to be part of the meal. We thought it was a little unethical that the waitress didn't let us know this. I am not sure if I will go out of the way to eat here again. There are so many other options in Chinatown that will give you better taste and value for your money.

Affordable, tasty, no frills Chinese grub spot. A little better than the usual greasy chinese take-outs and definitely, a place to go to satisfying your cravings for some quick, Chinese food. Their Cantonese Chow Mein is a personal favorite of mine, along with their salt and pepper squid. Just don't eat them before a date because they sure are garlicky!

From my blog: "My first experience at APDC was a sweet one. It was the best dining experience I have ever had with food and service bar none. It raised my expectations on what a proper dining experience should be and to this day, I haven't been able to be completely happy with any restaurant's service since then. And that rings true for my subsequent visits to APDC too. Service and food in Au Pied de Cochon have not been great since my first visit - and I have given them 4 chances since the first. My second visit was still very much influenced by the charm of my first visit but I was not impress with my 3rd, 4th and 5th. Maybe it had to do with the fact that Chef Martin Picard was not there in all the other four times and service became slack. Our table is ignored for a full 15 minutes or more before anyone comes to ask about us and to take our orders. Never mind that despite reservations, we always had to wait 20-30mins to be seated. I suppose fame comes at the price of willing diners' time, but I am willing to forgo this bit. Food has been good but incomparable to the first time we were there. One of my companions had an overly salty sword fish stew, but to the credit of the waiter, that feedback was taken seriously. Their infamous Duck in the Can's foie gras was too soft the 2nd, 3rd and 4th time around; it was almost like eating a blob of uncooked chicken liver. The bold flavors of the food in APDC is becoming a little boring. It's missing something, despite its velvety richness and tasty reductions - in my mind, food needs a certain balance and it's becoming more apparent that food in APDC feels like it's being churned out by drones, lacking a certain depth or je ne sais quoi. Chef Picard needs to pay more attention to what's being churned out. Arrival of our meals takes approximately 30mins - 1 hour every time, regardless if it was full house or not. I can wait but the food has to be worth it; and it hasn't really been worth the wait since the first time we were there. No one came to check on us in the middle of dining like they used to on our 5th time there either (and there's a reason for this too, if you will read on), and so we couldn't really tell them how we felt. I understand the friendly atmosphere APDC wants for its customers but downing shots of alcohol with a guest while other tables need waiting is not professional. I am beginning to wonder if APDC is becoming too complacent, too comfortable in their throne." http://bit.ly/Mwhm7
