This is the place we take our out-of-town guests to for brunch. Beautiful French-style food and very generous portions. Our favourites are En croquette sur blinis and the Cocotte aux champignons. Large sheltered terrace in the summer time, but the interiors are rich and inviting.
However, I must write seriously about our experience with the evening service - run by a team that is expertly lead by Maxime Chauvin. Valois' new chef, Cécile Salomé is truly sensational. Her dishes are both classic and inventive, and easily the best meal we've had in the neighbourhood. It just so happened that we went during Montreal En Lumiere, and some of us decided to go for the prix fixe menu. Parfait de foie gras and a dessert mousse delicately fashioned to resemble a beet were highlights, but those of us that ordered off the regular menu were quite impressed with the duck confit.
In sum, this is one of the most charming restaurants in the neighbourhood that boasts excellent service with food that is really quite upscale. We will continue to come for brunch and now, we will absolutely make a point to show up for dinner.
