Over the years, the festival, a healthy prescription of up-and-coming electro, hip-hop, and pop rock artists has taken on the mandate of attracting a crowd of curious and open-minded night owls, of proudly representing Canadian music and bridging the distance with the US and Europe. The MEG was created in 1999 by Mustapha Terki and Jacques Primeau with this in mind. In 19 years, the Montreal festival has become an international meeting place ripe for the convergence of all urban styles, as you can see by the non-exhaustive list of past participants who attended when they were still flying under the radar : Groenland (2012), Suuns (2014), Tiga (2005), Dead Obies (2013), Robert Robert (2016), M83 (2002), Le Tigre (2004), Justice (2005), Santigold et M.I.A. (2007).
