Food is not bad but way over priced. $25 for the mac and cheese is outrageous. Although besides the price I saw something tonight that really angered me. I was sitting with my family when an older gentleman came in the front entrance. He somehow fell down the stairs and bumped his head. One of the waiters screamed to one of the waitresses to lock the front door for some reason. Then someone brought ice a and that was it. The gentleman was left to his own with the 2 women from his party to take care of him. No other care was provided by the staff. I can't believe the manager never did anything. At one point he walked over glanced over and when he saw the man was not seriously hurt, he just walked away. He never approached to ask if he was ok or if he needed anything. I couldn't believe it! I was so angry that nothing else was done to take care of this poor man. All kinds of complications could have happened. He could have had a concussion, a subdural bleed, a seizure from the trauma. That manager is comletely useless. He walks around, never smiling, trying to look important. I hope nothing like this ever happens again. Don't count on getting any help from the staff.
This is in response to the post below... While I appreciate your concern, your indignation is completely unjustified - you have NO idea what actually transpired. I do, as I am the waitress that was serving the gentlemen that fell, and his 2 friends. When he fell, several staff - myself included - ran over to see if he was OK, someone asked me for ice - which the manager was ALREADY preparing behind the bar - which is why he didn't run over right away. I asked the 2 ladies if we should call for help, at which point they informed me that they were ALL DOCTORS, and that he just needed some space. The reason someone said to lock the front door, is because the gentlemen fell down the stairs right in front of it, and we wanted to be sure that no one else would do the same. As soon as the gentlemen and his party returned to their table, I immediately went to see if he was OK, and to ask if there was anything that myself or the manager could do, as we were all extremely concerned. He was in good spirits, if a bit flustered and embarrassed, and replied that he could really use a stiff drink to cure his headache; obviously his sense of humor was still intact, and he assured me he was fine. There was absolutely NO LACK OF CONCERN from the management and staff, we dealt with the situation as best we could, while trying not to overwhelm the poor man - last thing someone in that situation wants is to have 10 people swarming around them, asking if they are OK. The manager was not in the least bit neglectful, he was quite worried and the only reason he didn’t approach the man is that the man himself (a doctor) and his 2 friends (both doctors) assured us that he was OK. Throughout dinner, the manager was constantly checking with me to make sure the gentlemen was alright, and we did our best to ensure that he had a pleasant experience and was well taken care of. I hope that this may relieve some of your distress, perhaps you were too busy fretting over the price of the Mac n Cheese to notice that the staff was completely on top of the situation. By the way, the reason the Mac is priced as it is, is because the chef uses only the highest quality, premium ingredients... mascarpone, Comte, Victor & Berthold, pancetta & black truffle to name a few... this is no Kraft Dinner. And despite the price...it has a cult following!! Misunderstandings aside, I do hope that your experience hasn’t turned you off the Taverne completely, because it is truly a wonderful place. Great food and atmosphere, and in my 10 years in the restaurant industry I have never worked in an establishment that is so much a family, which is why I feel the need to defend it as I would any of my other friends or family. Despite how it may have seemed to you, the management and staff at Taverne are exceptionally caring, both professionally and personally. We all have the utmost respect and consideration for each other, for our restaurant and for our clientele. So come on in again, and give us another shot...who knows – maybe, just maybe, you will see what the fuss is about; and perhaps you will become one of the ‘regular’ customers that we all adore and that make up a considerable and vital part of the ‘family’...
just saying, the mac and cheese was not like KD.. the cheese was very high end and there was pancetta and truffle oil
