Chalet BBQ is nothing short of an icon in NDG, so talking trash about this establishment would be like insulting the Pope right in the Vatican. No danger of trash talking this place as far as I'm concerned. The chicken is moist and perfect, the fries are EXACTLY the way fries should be and the sauce is simply delicious. UPDATE: After a few years, we finally returned to Chalet BBQ to enjoy some delicious BBQ chicken. Food was just as good as before, but the service has deteriorated considerably. We were 2 couples and one of our friends are handicapped and had a problem with his legs. Even though we arrived late in the evening, with the restaurant 80% empty, the host/manager refused to give us the larger booth so our friend could sit and get up safely, instead telling us he was "...saving the booth for larger parties". Needless to say, no other parties arrived and the booth was left empty, while the 4 of us sat at a small table crowded in the corner. I grew up in NDG and all my friends and I practically lived in this restaurant. What an insulting'homecoming' that was. After being treated like Persona non Grata, we'll do this manager a favor and won't be returning.

My wife and I enjoyed every minute of our evening. The ambiance, food and service were impeccable. Don’t mind paying the SAQ x 3 wine prices when your wine is properly served and poured in a timely fashion. I must admit one of my pet peeves are restaurants that hit you with high ‘cork charge’... open the bottle, pour the first glass, then never return until you ask for the cheque. Our waiter was attentive, friendly and polite. Really enjoyed our evening. Can’t wait to return.

First time.... and last time. My wife and I each ordered a burger fries and a drink... $30!! I asked for my hamburger ‘all dressed’, after biting into it, I discovered it had about a tablespoon of boiled soggy mushrooms, forcing me to pluck them out...... who puts rubber tastless mushrooms in a burger unless it specifically calls for it? Lettuce was bitter and brown around edges, a chunk of a tomato’s ‘butt’ end and overkill on the Velveeta cheese overpowering any taste that could have possibly existed from the paper thin beef patties. No plates, no tray, not even a paper place mat to eat on, just the brown paper bag they throw the food in to eat off of. If you want to offer a ‘rustic’ or ‘bare bones’ burger joint type atmosphere and service, you shouldn’t be chargeing prices comparible to restaurants with more comfortable surroundings, better tasting and presented food and actual table service.

Our first visit to a 'Souvlaki Bar' franchise, and extremely glad we chose the Ville Saint -Laurent location as a benchmark. The place was packed and 'hopping' on a snowy Friday evening. Had a great window booth, watching the 'Christmas' view. (almost April as I write this review). The ambiance is bright and alive, lighting is a festive/modern/traditional fusion that works both aethetically and practically. The food is quite frankly another fusion of quality and taste. I ordered the 'Club Pita', this is'nt your daddy's 'club sandwich' (even if he WAS Greek)...lol. Every component is quality and taste. From the chicken to the perfectly prepared bacon strips and everything in between, a real instant 'Go to' plate. The service was Inviting, attentive and appreciative.... how could you not return?

I visited Firegrill a few times for business lunches and was impressed with the quality of food, service and ambiance. I decided to take my wife for 'dinner and a movie' last Saturday and although we enjoyed the same quality of food and service, I was shocked at the wine prices. I have given 4 out of 5 for both food and service, however I simpy must point out that charging $46 for a bottle of wine that goes for $14 at the SAQ is outrageous! SAQ X 3.3 is way overpriced.

Went for business lunch on a Friday. Atmosphere is great, service is attentive and relatively fast. However I was disappointed in the food considering the prices being charged. $10 for a beer?, wings that end up costing $2 each? Sorry, but $50 for a burger and beer lunch is certainly outside my comfort zone.

I had previously visited La Verita on a few occasions, with each dinner being better than the last. Subsequently my wife and I decided to have our reception dinner there this past Saturday and we're delighted we did. Derek, the owner of La Verita is without doubt a professional, who is extremely knowledgeable, and obviously someone who cares about making people feel comfortable. From helping us finalize our menu and our table layout to his greeting us at the reception desk on our special night, assured us we were in goods hands. My wife and I and each of our guests, some of whom were already pleasantly familiar with La Verita, were overwhelmed with the beautifully presented plates, the incredibly delicious food, extraordinarily professional and attentive staff, who's timing was absolutely perfect with everything. Our waiter for the evening was friendly, attentive a pleasure to deal with and blessed with perfect timing. The décor is a clean, modern look, with wavy demi walls, giving an inviting softness. Lighting is gives a warm comfortable ambience. The wavy half walls also help considerably in cutting down noise levels. As far as the food is concerned, every dish was incredible. Elegant presentations, Grand choice of delicious appetizers (including La Veritas amazing meat balls), and of course the main courses. The majority of our guests including myself chose the 10oz filet mignon. I've had many in my time and La Verita's are the best I have ever had, quite simply PERFECT. That was the unanimous opinion from all at our table which speaks volumes for La Verita's ability to produce high quality plates on a consistent basis. Don't try this at home folks, these guys are professionals. Everyone commented on the delicious food, wine and how smoothly everything went and how beautiful the entire evening was. Food , service, decor and ambience.... If I could give more stars I would. I'd like to thank Derek, his manager Tommy and the incredible staff at La Verita for turning a memorable evening for 2 into a beautiful event for 16. Bravo! Aug 6 2022 UPDATE: After a few years hiatus, we recently returned to one of our favorite restaurants. Unfortunately our experience deteriorated considerably since our last visit. I ordered their signature dish (10oz Filet Mignon), medium rare, served with broiled asparagus and a single carrot. The service was perfect as usual. Unfortunately the filet mignon was slightly overdone, asparagus was borderline and the carrot was absolutely raw. But the most concerning was the ambiance of this once classy establishment. Tattooed bikers entered wearing so much perfume we were forced to ask waiter to change our table, then we were placed beside another table where 4 men who's language was so inappropriate, I was embarrassed for bringing my wife. Unfortunately management and staff allow this type of behavior. This restaurant desperately needs a makeover has now become a really expensive brasserie.

Had Mother's day brunch and was expectadly busy. Service was fast and friendly. The ambiance is warm and inviting. I ordered a straight forward eggs, easy over with bacon And sausage. All was prepared perfectly except the sauges which were dry and absolutely tasteless. Another person at our table ordered the eggs Benedict.... the hollendaise sauce was apparently bland and tasteless. To be fair l'd like to try their evening menu and update this review at a later date, but for now unfortunately the food is just nor that great.

Aug - 2011 I had no expectations of grandeur going to Scores, but I did at least expect some taste and service. I have visited this location a few times, each time I tried something different, and each time the meal was bland and tastless. Just not very good quality food. The service was not very attentive or helpful. Not a very pleasant experience Update Nov 2015 Had business lunch, ordered chicken brochette... arrived cold, dried out and so stuck to skewer that I had to tear each piece of flat dried up pieces of chicken from skewer..... for a 'chicken' restaurant there is no excuse. Time to up their game here, this is unacceptable!

We had not tried Scarolie's since a disastrous evening 4 years ago. Improvements in staff were obvious. The meals were served in a timely and professional manner. I ordered a steak done to perfection covered in brie , red peppers and mushroom with sweet potato fries.... it was absolutely delicious. I ordered a bottle of Jacob's Creek and was totally disappointed in my choice as the wine had little character and was a poor match for the meal. All in all a beautiful and memorable evening.... thank you Scarolie's! UPDATE (SEP 6 2014); We reserved a booth for 7:00pm for 4. We waited for 20 minutes... what are reservations for? We did not get a booth as we had been promised. We were greeted by a hostess with far more attitude and surliness than professionalism, which, coming from someone a third of my age was hard to accept. Our meals were delicious, no complaints whatsoever. However, the immature and inexperienced staff negated any positive experience the food gave us. After being 'guided' to our table by a 16year old in flip-flops, we were delivered to our waiter, who, after serving our meals, never asked how our meals were, never dimmed the lights over our heads (although we had asked repeatedly), and never asked if we would like desert. He only returned with our bill..... This restaurant has such amazing potential. Great location, food and ambiance, unfortunately management is staffing this establishment with immature and contemptuous floor personnel. Let's face it... when your 'hostess' who is supposed to make you feel like you're 'welcomed' when you arrive and appreciated, leave you feeling like we were 'disturbing' her and all you want to do is leave... is not a good start, and you don't get a second chance to make a first impression. I've tried giving this restaurant many chances over the years but their staff keep blowing it.

My wife suggested we try this restaurant. Admittedly the ambiance is better suited for younger clientele, but that's not a bad thing. The service was as expected, younger women showing more cleavage and attitude than attentiveness and courtesy, better suited for a brasserie than a restaurant. We ordered burgers and poutiness. The poutine was large and delicious, unfortunately the burgers were for the most part entirely tasteless. Not a very high quality beef. Can't give a 100% positive review for only half the meal. Although the experience wasn't terrible, it's just not worth returning.

We recently tried this new breakfast restaurant and were impressed with the clean, bright and bold surroundings. The service was very friendly and fast. The food was well prepared and beautifully presented. I chose one of their eggs benedict plates and like the majority of restaurants, the hollandaise sauce was a little weak in the butter department. It was refreshing to have GOOD COFFEE, which strangely seems to be a rarity in Montreal breakfast restaurants. However.... After choosing our meals, the waitress pleasantly asked if I would like cheddar cheese, swiss cheese or both on my potatoes.... I thought wow, that's a nice idea, and chose the cheddar.... if I had known I was going to be charged an additional $2.50 for some melted cheese mixed in to my potatoes (hardly tasted any cheese at all), I would have definitely refused. Although I understand you get what you pay for....I still find over $40 for breakfasr for 2 a little high. All in all a pleasant experience if you disregard the surprise surcharges, and I would definitely recommend this restaurant. UPDATE: Unfortunately like many restaurants that become popular quickly, the quality and consistancy start to suffer. The last 2 visits will probably be my last. Food was served cold (undercooked and cold bacon and cold slimy eggs). Noisy, slow service, packed and food is just average (when it's cooked) and expensive when compared to other breakfast spots in and around Montreal.

My wife and I recently visited to sample what was said to be; "...one of Montreal's best seafood restaurants". Here is our experience; Once our waiter delivered our plates, and poured our first glass of wine, all his attention went to another table near us, after which he began attending to empty tables (straightening cutlery, fluffing napkins, etc) essentially doing anything he could to stay away from our table completely ignoring us for the rest of the evening. He never asked us how our meals were, never filled our wine glasses again, never asked if we would like desert or coffee or bothered with us in any way. I had to ask another waiter just to get our bill so we could leave. My wife's plate was nothing more than fried pasta in meat sauce, (like what you do at home with leftovers). After sampling it myself, I could well understand why her appetite was cut for anything else. I ordered the the salmon that arrived undercooked, french fries that were also undercooked and a selection of 'grilled vegetables' that were dried out rubber 'plate decoration/filler' void of any taste at all. We both hated our meals. If the waiter had bothered to return I would have returned our plates. I asked one of the bus boys to bring me some butter so I could introduce some flavour to my vegetables, unfortunately by the time it arrived the grilled veggies were ice cold slabs of rubber. Overpriced, below par meals combined with unattentive (borderline contemptuous) service, left us both feeling 'unwelcomed'. We actually couldn't wait to get our bill just so we could get out of there. There are so many seafood restaurants in Montreal that are twice as good for half the price.... definitely will not return to pay to be insulted.

We had been thinking about trying this restaurant for some time.... maybe we should have thought a little longer. L`Academie is a`bring your own wine`establishment, so I brought a nicely chilled bottle of Frescobaldi intending to enjoy it `chilled`, unfortunately after waiting 20 minutes of waiting for our waiter, then waiting another 20 minutes for the wine cooler that I asked for, which he never brought,(we had to ask someone else), the wine was no longer chilled. We had been seated by our hostess at a `postage stamp` sized table. I asked for something a little larger, but was refused even though there were plenty of empty larger tables which remained empty for the remainder of the evening, not a good start. My wife ordered the fettuccini primavera, which she enjoyed, although a little pricey for veggies and pasta. I ordered garlic escargot and the penne Romonaff. The escargot arrived floating in crisco and diced garlic... properly cooked but tastless (I added a pat of butter and some salt to add some flavour). The penne was the larger version, which left the plate looking very unsophisticated and was overcooked (no excuse for that). The sauce was bland with only the flavour of the peppercorns blasting through with each bite. Not a quality dish to say the least. All in all a noisy, restaurant with unprofessional inexperienced staff serving bland over-priced forgettable food. Not going back.

As some other reviewers have pointed out, if you're looking for romantic or fancy this is not the place. The food is generally tasty, the Marathon dressing is delicious, the portions are perfect and the prices are very reasonable. The only complaint would be the service that has for some reason deteriorated over the past few months. Servers seem to not care. Jun 5 2009 Update: Had dinner last Thursday night, the service is even worse. Although the food is still tasty, the way its thrown on your table certainly takes away from the evening. Not a single glass of wine was poured for our table (not even the first), requested napkins never came and our water glasses were never filled. The waiter never bothered to ask how we were doing... however, I'm sure he figured it out after receiving his $2 tip. Jun 2012 Update: Second time we arrive for dinner at 7:00pm on a Friday evening only to be told they have no meat left......?

Had dinner Friday evening. I ordered the Steak with lobster newburg sauce. Quite frankly, it was one of the best meals I have had in my life regardless of restaurant or price. The steak was perfect and the lobster sauce was delicious. Our evening was made even better by our waitress who's service was beyond reproach. Our waitress was fast and friendly. We never poured a single glass of wine for ourselves the entire evening as our waitress' timing was perfect. We weren't rushed or ignored as is so aften the case with chain type restaurants. The Baton Rouge should be commended for the quality of their serving staff. An extremely enjoyable evening across the board... Bravo! UPDATE: Had dinner one week later and ordered the exact same dish...... the steak was tough and served cold, the lobster sauce was 'fishy' and about half as thick and the service was surly. When I told the waiter my steak was cold, his reaction was "you asked for it rare didn't you"? I ordered it medium rare, I said and didn't appreciate his tone or the fact that he never apologized for the steak. What an incredible lack of consistancy from one week to the next. I have enjoyed only 1 meal after many attempts at many locations... not a very good batting average. Won't be giving Baton Rouge many more opportunities.

We usually dine at the West Island location, but since we were in the neighbourhood thought we'd try the Laval location. I ordered a medium-well 'Baton Rouge Burger'. It arrived well done (almost burned) crunchy and tasteless. I have no idea why, but every time I order a burger from ANY Baton Rouge location it arrives over done and extremely dry. After this last visit, I've learned my lesson and won't be ordering burgers there anymore. Our wine arrived with only 2 inches of ice and water in the ice bucket..... waitress immediately filled it. Although the meal was disappointing, the service was perfect. Friendly, attentive and professional, far better service than many other higher priced and pretencious restaurants we have visited. She saved the night. Although the service was polite, friendly and attentive, the meal was a disaster. UPDATE: I ordered the grilled Atlantic salmon that arrived cold. I returned my plate, it was most likely microwaved since the fish was warmer on the inside than the exterior. By the time my plate was warmed and returned my girlfriend had finsished her meal. Eating in shifts ruined our evening. My meal tasted like overcooked leftovers. I have dined at a few Baton Rouge locations and have enjoyed only 1 meal. There is absolutely no consistancy from one meal to the next at ANY location.

The burgers (they're the little dark brown lump in the middle of the bun) are admittedly delicious. Why they are the size of a peppermint pattie instead of a beef pattie I have no idea. My date and I had a regular plate of hamburger and french fries and were still hungry after. One would think that hamburgers this puny wouldn't end up costing almost $40 for 2 people. If this place starts making their patties a little larger, and reduce their 'greedy' prices I'll return.
