We just ate at Chenoys on St. Jean in the west island. We wanted a good smoked meat sandwich sorely disappointed. First, there was none of the dry old fashioned smoked meat again, so we ordered the regular spicy one. Unfortunately the meat was cut too thick, but the real disappointment was that they changed the bread they used to use and replaced the rye with a new flimsy toast style bread. It just turned to mush on the sandwich, had a different flavour that didn't fit with the sandwich, and the whole flavor was off. Service was fine though and that was the only good thing. The smoked meat sandwich was a real disappointment after being so much better for 30 years. If this is what they will continue do in the future, we'll go elsewhere like Moe's, Smoked Meat Pete's, and Abys which all have better smoked meat sandwiches than Chenoy's now.
Every year or so we re-try this place, but it gets more "meh" every time we go. The menu changed from what I remembered a few years ago and in my opinion for the worse. I had the pig's knuckles, wife had the fish and the best both of us could say was that it was barely OK. The food is just not that good. The waiters seemed like they were burnt out and just bored to be there. Overall rating would be a poor average. We might give it one last try again after at least another year passes but definitely not before because there a lot of better places around.
