My boyfriend and I really like the food at this restaurant. We came here by accident, but we were pleasantly surprised. Instead of getting the traditional Vietnamese Pho, we ordered the house noodle soup. It smells and tastes amazing. We get it every time. The service is okie. Not super friendly, but not cold either.

There was a deal on Groupon for waffles at Le Renoir Restaurant. Groupon listed the deal as the following: “Two orders of homemade liège waffles- Two hot chocolates, teas, or coffees.” I have had liege waffles before and they are NOT the classic Belgian waffles that you could normally get at a breakfast place. Liège waffles are made with a different kind of sugar and are denser. They are heavier than a traditional waffle. I really do love waffles, so I jumped at the opportunity to try the liege waffles at Le Renoir. When we arrived, we were not greeted right away. It took a few minutes before we were acknowledged. There weren’t many people there, so I don’t know what the problem was. The waffles are served between 3pm-5pm and you are seated in the bar area, not in the main dining area. The atmosphere is pretty chick and modern. I presented the voucher and I selected the hot chocolate while my boyfriend chose their coffee. My hot chocolate looked lovely, but tasted like nothing. It wasn’t sweet. It didn’t even taste like chocolate. My boyfriend wasn’t offered milk or cream with his coffee, which he normally adds. The waffles came a few minutes later. As soon as the waffles were served, my boyfriend could already feel the disappointment from me. THEY ARE NOT LIEGE WAFFLES! They are regular waffles. I felt completely duped. I didn’t want to make it a big deal and had hoped that they would at least taste good. However, mines looked under cooked (they didn’t have a golden crisp colour) while my boyfriend’s waffles were a darker golden brown. They waffles are served with 3 dipping sauces: chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry. When I cut into the waffles, mines didn’t make that crunch sound, so they weren’t crispy on the outside. The waffle was incredibly mushy. It felt really heavy in my stomach. My boyfriend’s waffles were equally mushy on the inside, but at least had a crunch on the outside. We didn’t finish the waffles. When we were presented the bill, the tip was already added to the value of the meal. So we had to pay $4.50 (tip) plus the taxes. I have used vouchers before and the tip has always been to my discretion. Had the service been decent (waited around before being greeted, didn’t ask how our meal was, didn’t make conversation, etc,) then I wouldn’t be making a comment over this. Overall, the whole experience was a complete let down. I wouldn’t go back.
