Da Emma

4.5

Despite some negative reviews, we tried it the last night of our one week stay in Montreal. What an amazing restaurant! My mother is Italian, and I grew up in the Italian Part of Switzerland, so I have a certain idea what real Italian food looks like. At 7AM the restaurant was not so busy, but in the next hour it was full. Romantic, but no kitsch. Dimmed lights and stone walls: just perfect. All the personnel is welcoming and acting natural, like being at home. The menu board is a very original idea and having the dishes listed in perfect Italian was a nice surprise. Even my English speaking fiancée was amazed and needed little help to understand its content. The wine selection is interesting and the wine at the right temperature. We had maialino al forno (pig roast) and coniglio (rabbit) both cooked as they should, tender and flavorful. Two real ristretto coffees closed this gastronomic dream of real roman cuisine. At the end of the dinner - no rush at all, we took our time enjoying the romantic environment- I commented to Alex, the knowledgeable waiter, who attended us, to say a big thank you to Emma. He asked me if I spoke Italian, of course, and we were walked over the kitchen to meet Emma. What a lovely, charming and professional woman! Following my very positive comments on the dinner, she smiled proudly and started shoving all sort of dishes she was cooking. She opened the oven pulling out a tray with "abbacchio alla romana" (baked lamb roman style). OMG! After a nice dinner I was ready to start again! We will come back next time and not for the last night! Thank you Emma again!
