HUGE portions, even for someone who is a student, therefore eats twice a day in large amounts. Get any sandwich and prepare yourself to take half of it home, that seems to be a norm. OR, go halfsies with a friend and then you can try 2 of their glorious creations. I got the tuna salad which is jam packed with every vegetable under the sun and fresh mixed greens + tuna with the optimal amount of mayo in a huge bowl. Unfortunately the bowl was big enough to actually mix the salad, but regardless, with time I finished it and was more than satisfied. Consider hitting up this off-the-beaten-path cafe on your way towards the mountain for a weekend walk, or on your way to Mont-Royal for some shopping. They have a surprisingly large amount of seating and tons of cool decoration within. The atmosphere is welcoming and everyone there seems to just perpetually be in a good mood.

After many hungover morning lazy decisions have led to poor or repetitive choices for breakfast/lunch the following day, I was glad I followed a friend's advice for where we should go for breakfast when 2 friends from abroad were in town. Bagel Etc. is a bit of a walk from downtown (where I live), especially in the winter, but the walk gives you time to rehash the night before, get over your hangover, and work up an appetite for the meal ahead. Personal favourites include the omelette with veges and cheese (there was a special name for it, but I can't recall off the top of my head) and the juevos rancheros with green salsa which was also remarkably satisfying. Bagel Etc. is about 5 steps above your usual Place Milton or Eggspectations and has 10x the flavour of Cora's, so if you're a McGill student and inevitably one of your wild nights has lead to a hungover morning, definitely consider the jaunt up St. Laurent (where you likely were only hours previously the night before) to get yourself a good filling breakfast to start your day off right. The service is prompt and they refill coffee like it's going out of style. Plus, hitting up Bagel Etc can allow you to pretend to be one of those hipsters that you pretend to hate. Really, try it, it's worth the walk and the portions are spectacular.

Went there to try it out for a friend's birthday, I was pleasantly surprised! W&G's sets itself apart with its food, making up for the fact that you have to actually buy their wine. I ordered the chicken stuffed with goat cheese and could not have been more satisfied with my order. Granted, there could have been more goat cheese, but I'm a bit of a cheese-aholic, so it's probably better that there wasn't. Others in my party ordered the Pasta misto de mare (Seafood Pasta) and the fettuccine with rose sauce, with both certainly not disappointing and any leftovers were wrapped up to be taken home to eat the next day (or later that night). Portions are a good size, even for someone who eats a lot. The service was also efficient and brought all 12 of our plates out at almost the same time, which was commendable given it was a Saturday night.

As a beginner to Indian food, I'm no expert on what is good Indian food and what isn't, but the others in my party seemed extremely satisfied to the same extent as I was when we dined at this little restaurant in the early Fall. We sat by the window so we could people watch and the server was friendly and offered us suggestions, especially for my vegan roommate who was in attendance. I ordered the Saag Paneer, which is a new-found favourite of mine, as I'm not as tolerant of the spice levels in Indian food as most people are. It was absolutely fantastic and deliciously rich and creamy and I had no problems finishing it. The others in my party ordered the Paneer Makhani, Chana Masala, and Daal Makhani, and all were quite delicious, however the Saag Paneer stood out as the table-favourite. The atmosphere is cute and likely even better in the summer when you can enjoy patio seating.
