Au Tarot

Service

My go-to "fix" for those Maghreb food cravings...Au Tarot never disappoints. Delicious salads and briqs and fabulous couscous tagines platters envelope you in exotic tastes and smells of the best of North Africa. Not to be missed!

I've eaten here four times...always the pizza...never disappointed! It's fresh, authentic and well-priced. The restaurant is pretty, functional and makes for a romantic evening. My co-diners were equally pleased with the various dishes they ordered. Service, even on busier weekend evenings, is in my experience smooth and punctual. All-in-all, a great West Island gem to get your "fix" for those authentic Italian cuisine hunger cravings.

2.5

Having eaten here over the last few years on an occasional basis (say, once every three months or so), we've noticed a definite decline in the service; unfortunate, because the pizzas and pastas are tasty. The restaurant setting is comfortable, borderline romantic you might say, and the prices are moderate. The menu is diverse to offer all members of a family of four a sufficient choice in finding what suits their tastes. Some fine-tuning respecting customer service could certainly bring this restaurant up in the star ratings in this reviewers opinion.

Lebanese coastal cuisine par excellence, with some of the best mezzes (Middle Eastern appetizers) in the city. Hummus and babaghanoush to drool over, with only the freshest vegetables contributing to wonderfully tasty fatoush and tabboule salads. But the kicker? The freshest of seafood products, serviced by the adjacent fish monger store under the same roof. The service is classic-Lebanese: hospitable, welcoming (in typical Levantine fashion) and always professional; maitre d' Mr. Milad, when present, always greets clientele with a warm smile and big hug; reservations are a MUST on a busy weekend evening. All-in-all, among the best seafood-themed restos in Montreal.

Food...exceptional! Drinks...exceptional! Service...exceptional! ...need I say more? After having resided in the New York City area for almost ten years, 40 W. brought me right back to the Big Apple. The restaurant is impressive and elegant, without being stuffy; the settings are immaculate, and the service is conducted in the utmost professionalism. Naturally, as the old adage goes, you get what you pay for! Fast food, it ain't, but if your looking for a memorable Montreal-area dining experience, 40 W. makes for a memorable choice.

Del Friscos

Service
Nourriture
3.0

Slightly-better-than-mediocre Italian-themed West Island resto, frequented by the younger crowds and accompanying families, as well as movie-goers (owing to the adjacent theater. A bit on the pricey side, with passable appetizers, pasta and pizza...caveat: this is NOT a BYOB restaurant. Be prepared for a longer-than-usual wait-time on a busy weekend evening, and an (at times) uncomfortable noise level (if a quiter environment is "your thing").

Manago

Service

4.0

I've eaten here a few times...never disappointed; truth-be-told, I've always confined my main dish choices to their thin-crust pizza, and I've always left Manago with a full belly and a satisfied smile! Service has always been prompt, professional and pleasant; a bit minimalist on the wine selection, but the bruschetta, garlic bread gratine and boccini and tomatoes are always served fresh and mouth-wateringly tasty. Parking is plentiful in this neighborhood strip-mall, but you might want to make rez's come Saturday night. Will definitely be back.

Tandoor & Grille Haveli

3.5

Good-quality Indian food in this West-Island reto, as evidenced by the weekend crowds that quickly fill up Tandoor et Grille. Great butter chicken, chicken tikka and shahi paneer; fluffy naans, tatsy roti and papadams; delicious samosas, pakoras and chutneys. The down side...less than quality wait-service during the weekends; expect longer-than-usual wait-times, and the occasional mix-up or forgotten dish. Another caveat: difficult if not impossible parking as the restaurant gets busy on the typical Saturday night rush.

Enoteca Monza Pizzeria Moderna

Mozza has one of the better West Island pizza menus...thin crust, fresh and always tasty; their salads are pretty good, too. They are more towards the upper price points in comparison to like-pizzarias, and the service becomes markedly slower on weekend evenings, given the larger crowds and the perceptibly younger-appearing wait staff. Not a bad choice, though; would definitely grab a pizza at Mozza in the near-future.

L'Académie

Service

3.5

I've eaten at this location about a half-dozen times, exclusively for business-related luncheons; can't recall being disappointed once. Sizable menu in a BYOW setting makes L'academie a moderate-priced destination. The food is above-average, but in this diners opinion, comparable to other like-style bistros. The service is always on-point and professional, with only one slow-service experience (attributable to a fairly busy lunch crowd). Would definitely re-visit this resto.

Fun West Island resto, ideal for the 5 a 7 or the office get-together... Loud? You bet it is, but it adds to the dynamism of the "Elixor" experience. Well-priced with an eclectic, varied menu, Elixor has a bit of everything to tantalize the taste buds; highly recommend the salads. All-in-all, a good destination with friends or family.

Yas

4.0

Dined here for my third time recently, and as in the previous occasions, Yas did not disappoint. I preface the herein review by admitting that I'm partial to Persian cuisine: the freshness, spices, tastes and complexities of the cuisine appeal to me. More particular to Yas, the Must-o-khiar and must-o-mussir are tasty, and while the hummus does not compare to those of the Lebanese variant, the mirza ghasemi is one of the better of such plates I've eaten locally. The chicken dishes were of good quality and appetizingly presented, and the pricing was fair in comparison to other Persian fine dining establishments. The restaurant is quaint, if close-quartered, and makes for a romantic evening. Service is friendly, professional and prompt. All-in-all, an enjoyable, exotic experience.

Brochetterie Parthenon
Côte-des-Neiges
Service

5.0

This has been one of our extended family hangouts for our regular get-together for the past twenty-or-so years; going there truly feels like eating at home! Nothing overly fancy, unpretentious, but non-the-less terrific. Tzaziki to die for, great eggplant appetizers, delicious souvlakis, tasty Greek chicken...I could go on, but I'm getting hungry! Service is ALWAYS friendly...sure, you have to wait a bit longer when it's busy (never unreasonably long), but that's to be expected relative to any service industry. The value, quality of food and sizeable portions, in a family-friendly BYOB environment, contribute to making Parthenon one of this reviewer's all-time favs!

Panama Rotisserie
Dollard-des-Ormeaux
Service
Nourriture
5.0

I've eaten at this location approximately twenty times, always selecting the recommended fish plate. The seafood has, without exception, been "par excellence"! Always fresh, grilled to perfection and tasty. The mezze (appetizers) are, likewise, delicious. Most memorable personally are the grilled eggplant and zucchini; the Greek salad is always served freshly-prepared, and the Tzazkiki, while not my all-time favorite, is tatsy. By way of preference, I'm more partial to their skordalia. The wine list is sufficiently large for a West Island restaurant, offering a great accompaniment to the meal. Service is always friendly, professional and reasonably swift, considering how busy Panama can get on a typical weekend. As with comparable seafood restos, pricing is certainly more towards the moderate end of the scale, but wholly within reason given the quality of the food.

Jukebox Burgers
Dollard-des-Ormeaux
Service

5.0

Jukebox is the ideal, family-oriented restaurant for comfort-food oldies like poutine and burgers. Friendly service, great eats (albeit in a less-than-quiet environment...remember, this is a kid-friendly resto!) make for a fun night out. I especially like the different burger choices (in that I don't eat beef) and the eclectic side dishes. The kicker is the fun, retro-50's diner style, with the matching wall decor and stylized furnishings. Fair prices coupled with great shakes make Jukebox one of my family's "go-to" joints.

One of the fortunes of working in the West Island are executive lunches at Sahib! The buffet is always fresh and tasty, the service prompt and friendly, and the surroundings are warm and exotic...ditto all the above for their dinner menu. I can honestly say that I have eaten here not less than fifty times!
